Marlow Regatta
The final race before Henley Royal Regatta, the mens squad returned to Dorney lake on Saturday. Two quads raced in the Tier 2 category, with a full Nottingham crew providing an opportunity for sculling and racing experience as the season winds down for those in the boat. This crew moved on again from their training session, with their first taste of side by side racing, eventually placing in the B final.
The second quad was a composite from Nottingham, Newcastle, and Queens Belfast University. After a week of training together and settling into the style and crew, the boys pulled a 5th place finish in the time trial, setting them up well for the A final. Against a strong field the quad crossed the line in 3rd place, improving from the morning, and ending just 10 seconds behind the likely GB U23 lightweight quad.
The 8 matched the success of the quads, in a very tight field coming away 5th in the time trial as well, they would go on to race the A final in the afternoon. With a close race across the 7 lanes, the crew put in the fastest time done by a Nottingham University crew on the water, placing 4th, moving on from the morning time, and picking up the Tier 2 Academic Eights trophy as they finished ahead of all other university crews in the Tier 2 group.
