Wallingford Head 2021
Last weekend’s sudden front of cold weather didn’t stop us heading down to race at Wallingford Head of The River 2021. We sent down a fleet of 7 crews to race against clubs and schools from around the country to see if our hard winter training is paying off!
We started the day with the three Op 8+ and two W U23 8+. All the crews put out a great performance rowing down the Wallingford stretch, most of them for the first time. In Op8+, the senior 8 placed 2nd just behind Oxford Brookes after penalties were given to the crew ahead. The senior women’s 8+ also placed 2nd behind Oxford Brookes on their home stretch of water with the intermediate women placing 4th.
With a very short changeover, our other senior men’s 8+ boated and had a very strong race in a highly competitive category placing 4th in their category and 24th overall fastest boat of the day. Our Intermediate 4+ also had a great race in a crew that was only formed a few days prior to the race placing 2nd in their category and missing out on the win by less than 2 seconds.
Overall, it was a brilliant day of racing for UoNBC with some encouraging results leading into the next stage of training for the preparation for BUCS Head and Head of the River Race early next year. Thank you to all our coaches for the support they have given our crews over the last 3 months!
